Sept 20 : Carmona Circuit Philippines hosts the first IRGP

IRGP News No. 3

The historic Carmona Circuit Philippines in Cavite will be the home of the first InsideRACING Grand Prix Presented by Motolite Motorcycle Batteries. This special annual event for underbone motorcycle road racing takes place on Sunday November 25, with practice beginning on the morning of the preceding Saturday Nov 24.

Approximately more than sixty riders in four race classes will compete in “GP” style format over two days. The top honors in the Juniors Trophy, Masters Trophy, 115GP and 130GP will be contested by leading riders, manufacturers and teams.

The 1.02 kilometer track was built at the end of 1991 through the efforts of local motorsport visionary Mr. Johnny Tan, primarily as a world class kart track. Prestigious international karting events were held at the facility since its inception. It hosted its first motorcycle road races in 1993 with the CCP Motorcycle Races.

Since then, the circuit has been a regular scene in Philippine motorcycle and scooter races. Carmona has hosted numerous two-wheel racing series and track days at the club and national levels. The major championships that visited the track were the EL Racing Super Scooter Championships, the National Racing Association (NRA) Motorcycle Grand Prix and the Pinoy Bike Brother (PBB) Championships.

The nation’s most famous riders past and present have taken part in race events in Carmona. Jolet Jao, Jaime Barcial, Maico Buncio, Gerry Quinones, Carlo Yalo, JD Andrews, Toti Alberto, Johnlery Enriquez, Bryan Ortile, Benjo Mendoza, Mel Aquino, the Canare brothers, and many more have logged thousands of laps around the challenging track.

The interesting track lay-out features a 170-meter straight, a sweeping first corner, double apex corners, a sweeping curve, a fast kink and a couple of very tight hairpins. It requires a bike with an all-around performance and agility to win. A fast engine does not guarantee a win at Carmona.

Popular with both fans and riders, the Carmona Circuit Philippines is approximately 45 minutes away from Metro Manila.
