Aguilar, gearing up for the Asian Motocross leg in Guam next month, turned back
long-time rival Bebet de la Cruz and Dondon Yuzon in dominating both the Pro Open
and the Pro 125 classes of this event sponsored by Brothers Burger, Coca Cola, OZ
Racing and YRS, Wildman Sandals.
He was unstoppable right from the start as he quickly took the holeshot and seized
a wide margin over his rivals midway the race. As a treat to the spectators,
Aguilar did his usual antics of clapping his legs while on mid-air that drew roars
of cheers from his fans.
De la Cruz and Yuzon were actually tied with 40 points apiece in the Pro 125
division but Bebet secured the runner-up honors with his second place finish in
Moto 2.
Former champion Jovie Saulog, showing no rust despite his long absence from the
motocross scene, checked in fourth while Jerry Beech ended fifth.
But Yuson got back at De la Cruz in the Pro Open division where he garnered a
total of 40 points, just two points ahead of the latter. Saulog again bagged
fourth place honors while Kenneth San Andres, though struggling with bike
problems, managed to wind up fifth.
Young kids Joey Aycardo and Jan Carlo Rellosa were the only other double winners
in the event organized by NAMSSA and promoted by Xtreme Worx Philippines.
The nine-year-old Aycardo upstaged runner-up Jean Erick Mitra and third placer Raf
Raf Enriquez to claim the Junior 65 cc. crown and later bagged the Peewee title
over McLean Aguilar and TJ Alberto.
Rellosa likewise prevailed over Mark Garcia Lorenzo and brother Lorenzo Rellosa to
clinch the Junior 85 cc title and later pulled a sweep over Jonjon Antonio and
Jenzen Manuel for the Novice Open Production crown.
Executive rider Toti Alberto emerged the recipient of the 1st Recto de Leon
Memorial Cup following his amazing feat up against runner-up Nani Pazcoguin and
third placer Hermis Bantoc.
Ruling the other events were Joebanie Leyva who stamped his class in the
Intermediate class over JC Rellosa and Jonjon Antonio; Gino Memije who won the
Beginner Open Production over VJ Ocampo and Buboy Carno; Marlon Cequena who topped the Novice Local Enduro over Jerry Torres and Danny Felias; Jun Jun San Andres who bagged victory in the Veterans class against Guam's Stan Yasuhiro and Toti
Alberto; Jerry Torres who thwarted Joolee Mendoza and Danny Torres in the Local
Open Enduro; and Jason Sarmiento who copped the Underbone Open crown over Allan
Garcia and Roldan Daclan.
